Joseph Carr created Josh Cellars in 2007 as a tribute to his dad, Josh – Joseph’s way of honoring all that his father had done for him.
Josh was a lumberjack by trade who also served in the U.S. Army and volunteered as a local firefighter. He worked hard, and instilled values of dedication & perseverance in his children, Joseph and his twin sister, Lisa.
These values drove Joseph to create Josh Cellars. Hard work and a commitment to quality ensure that all Josh Cellars wines represent the best of California: they’re well-balanced, delicious and crafted to exacting standards.
Today, Josh Cellars has 11 varietals and a Reserve collection of wines that come from some of California’s most prestigious appellations, the North Coast and Paso Robles. Every vintage represents a labor of love, a commitment to quality, and a very personal promise to make great wine, in honor of Joseph’s father, Josh.
From supporting volunteer firefighters to restaurant industry rights, Josh Cellars is committed to giving back to causes that reflect our values.

As the proud son of a veteran, and the proud owner of a beautiful rescue dog (Molly), Pups4Patriots™ is a cause near and dear to Joseph Carr’s heart. The American Humane’s Pups4Patriots™ program finds dogs in search of forever homes and trains them to be lifesaving service dogs for veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury.
National Volunteer Fire Council
Joseph Carr’s dad, Josh, was a volunteer firefighter, so supporting the men and women who selflessly protect their communities has always been close to our hearts. The National Volunteer Fire Council provides direct assistance to volunteer fire departments and dedicated responders across the country. Their programs address a wide range of issues, including health and safety, recruitment and retention, fire department capacity, and fire prevention.
World Central Kitchen
In the spirit of giving back, Josh Cellars works with World Central Kitchen to provide communities in need with nourishing meals during the holiday seasons. Founded by chef José Andrés in 2010, World Central Kitchen’s mission is to use the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. They bring hope around the world through nourishing food and hot meals for people who need it most.
Supporting the military has always been important to Josh Cellars, as our namesake, Josh Carr, served in the U.S. Army. Operation Gratitude is an organization that helps to forge personal connections between the American public and active duty service members, veterans, and first responders by creating opportunities to express gratitude.
Restaurant Workers Community Foundation
The restaurant industry is where Joseph Carr got his start, and we believe that ensuring it’s a positive place for growth is vital for individuals just starting to build work experience. The RWCF supports restaurant workers across the country by addressing quality-of-life issues that disproportionately affect them, like wage fairness, career ladders, gender equity, sexual violence, racial justice, mental health, substance abuse, and support for the immigrant community.
California Fire Foundation
California wines inspired Joseph Carr to create his own brands and, today, most of our wines are produced in California: it is truly the brand’s home. We are proud to support the California Fire Foundation, an organization working tirelessly to provide emotional and financial assistance to families of firefighters and the communities they protect across the state. Joseph Carr’s grandfather and his father, Josh, were also volunteer firefighters in Berlin, NY, so this is a cause that is close to our business and hearts.
Trees for Troops
Trees for Troops provides free, farm-grown Christmas Trees to members of the U.S. armed forces in all branches of the military through donations, sponsorships, grants, and the work of many volunteers. Their acts of kindness help share the warmth of the holiday season and embody the spirit of gratitude and giving that our namesake was known for.
