Prosciutto, Ricotta & Hot Honey Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 fresh pizza dough, homemade or store bought
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 oz. prosciutto, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ red onion, peeled and sliced
- Pinch of salt
- Hot honey for topping
-
- Pizza Dough:
- 1 1/3 cups water around 110 degrees F.
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour plus extra for rolling
- Cornmeal for dusting
Directions
- If making homemade pizza dough, stir the water, yeast and sugar together and let sit for 5 minutes. Add the olive oil, salt and flour. Beat for a couple of minutes in a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook or with a large spoon. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic or a kitchen towel and let rise, in a warm place, for 1 to 1 ½ hours. Punch down the dough to release air bubbles and divide in two. Recipe makes enough dough for 2 pizzas.
- Pre-heat the oven to 500 degrees.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 11”. Sprinkle some cornmeal on a parchment lined baking sheet and place the dough on it.
- Brush with olive oil and spread on the ricotta cheese. Sprinkle on the mozzarella, slices of red onion and slices of prosciutto. Sprinkle with salt and place in the oven.
- Lower the oven temperature to 450 degrees and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the dough is a light golden brown. Drizzle with hot honey and serve with a Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, or Cabernet Sauvignon wine.
